Why the name 7 up ?

Bloooop my second blog !!
I have an infallible record of asking the dumbest questions on this earth.
Upholding this legacy I get remineded of one of the instances.
After a long and successful pretention of hard work , I walked to my regular Ciggi shop..
Usually the shop is flooded with people, and the surrounding air is definitely devoid of Oxygen. People were smoking as if there was no tomorrow !!
Clearing the crowd and of course the cloud of smoke I shouted out to the " Bhaiya ek Ultra Milds denaa" !! ( I shifted from Navy Cut to Ultra Milds because some stupid smoker suggested me that smoking Navycut can lead to impotency - What Crap !! but anyhow ....)
Yaar why do "so many" people smoke "so much "?? A passing thought came to my mind ....
Our Bhaiya slipped a Ciggi on to my hands and said "Paanch Rupya ", I asked for a Thums Up

Bhaiya said "Thums up nahin hai , 7 UP chalega?" Without waiting for my approval ... He handed over a chilled 7 up bottle ....
It had been long since i took vodka with 7 up only .....

Taking the first sip , I asked bhaiya " Iska naam 7 up kyun hai ?"
Bhaiya was shocked !! That was a masterpiece expression ........on his face !!!
And believe me that was natural in every sense ....
I finshed my ciggi but the question still kept haunting me ....

Why a crazy name like 7 up , not 8 down or 69 up-down ??? No one had an answer !!
